Mission Statement and Objectives

Mission Statement

West Linn Beaver Ambassadors is a West Linn Parks & Recreation program whose primary mission is to provide opportunities for our community to interact and engage with nature, natural resources, and natural processes in West Linn and the greater Portland region.

Objectives

To achieve our goals we have three main objectives:

  • Community outreach: we provide activities and information at city-planned events as well as create our own events for all to attend. Our social media presence provides pictures, nature-related information, and links to similar organizations throughout the region.
  • Education: Beaver Ambassadors has unique and adaptable lesson plans for 4th through 12th grades. We can lead lessons that align with topics already planned by educators. Our lessons topics vary and include biodiversity, adaptations, wetlands, urban ecosystems, GIS (geographic information systems), food webs, and more. We lead field trips as well as in-class activities!
  • Management: By accumulating current scientific information and best management practices, Beaver Ambassadors is able to make recommendations about managing beaver populations within West Linn parks and throughout the city. We are also able to provide resources about managing other urban wildlife and ecosystems

We have found the most success when two or more of our objectives can overlap. There is a valuable benefit when our community is able to experience urban wildlife management first hand. It is extremely difficult to replace the feeling of being in nature. Fortunately for us in Oregon the natural world is right in our backyard and Beaver Ambassadors are excited to share the adventure with our community!
